I’m so thankful to be able to offer a handful of Family Sessions during the Spring and Fall. With each family, there’s always something new, but each also have a common thread of ‘togetherness’ that always makes me smile.
When I photographed this family, I couldn’t help but think about my own sister. Watching these two little sisters as they paraded before my camera lens, holding hands one minute, laughing together another, took me back to one story in particular . . .

It was a few weeks before Christmas, and I was about five years old. Mom had taken my sister and me to see the Christmas parade in the local rural town near where we lived. Last in the parade, riding on a huge red fire truck with blasting sirens, was Santa Claus. I can barely recall my excitement, but Mom told me I stood like a statue, eyes as big a silver dollars, mouth open in awe of the spectacle before me.
As Santa climbed down from the fire truck and walked up the steps of the local bank to his special chair, children lined up for a visit on Santa’s knee.
I wanted to see Santa so much, but all of a sudden, I was scared. Very scared. Mom took my sister and me by the hand to get in line, and she had to nearly drag me into place. “Don’t you want to see Santa?” Mom asked. I looked at the ground and refused to answer. I was still scared.
All of a sudden, my sister took my hand, looked at Mom and said, “I’ll take her, I’m not afraid,” and up the steps we went to see Santa. I remember thinking I had the best sister in the world. She stood beside me and held my hand while Santa lifted me up to his lap.  I was no longer afraid, but it was my sister who helped me take that first step.

There is no better friend than a sister. And there is no better sister than you.

Although my passion is photography, another aspect of my business very near to my heart is meeting a couple for the first time, then watching them progress as a couple when they finally walk down the aisle together. Adrienne and Jason were like that for me.

When I met them the first time over cupcakes then had the opportunity to spend even more time together during their Engagement Session we just clicked. I grew to look forward to our calls and emails, as I made the journey with them from engagement to wedding. We began to know each other . . . we became friends.
When their wedding date finally came, the couple opted to have a First Look Session at Latta Park in Charlotte, NC.  As I’ve said before, the First Look is such an overwhelming culmination of emotion — joy, love, devotion, laughter, tears — it’s amazing to witness and Jason and Adrienne’s First Look was certainly no exception.
I felt the blur of tears in my own eyes, as the couple met together, just before their wedding.
Following the First Look Session, Adrienne and Jason sat quietly on a park bench for a few moments, then exchanged their wedding gifts.

She had chosen one of the photos from their Engagement Session that had brought tears to Jason’s eyes when he first saw it. This time, the photo was accompanied by an ornate frame on which was engraved a quote by Robert Browning “Grow old with me, the best is yet to come.”
His gift to her was a Swarovski crystal necklace, which perfectly matched the earrings he’d purchased for her birthday, and the ring by which he had secured her promise of the future.
But Jason’s ring wasn’t the only one that Adrienne cherished at her wedding day. She also carried her late father’s wedding ring, wrapped tenderly in her bouquet, signifying the unending bond between father and daughter.

As Adrienne walked confidently down the aisle to meet her future husband, the look on both their faces made it completely evident that they were, indeed, meant for each other.
Knowing the intricate details of their engagement and wedding, as I watched the couple say “I do,” it made me feel, indeed, “the best is yet to come.”
