It never ceases to amaze me how much I have in common with some of my clients.
When meeting Jenna and Andrew for the first time, it was amazing how many similarities we shared — a love of the Charleston, SC waterfront, a romantic walk on the beach, meeting our future spouse while attending college, and most of all, conquering the tests of a long distance relationship.
For many months while attending the University of South Carolina, Jenna and Andrew both resided in the same apartment complex, attended the same gym and some of the same classes. But it wasn’t until a week before they graduated the two finally met face-to-face. They ended up forming a friendship-turned-relationship that spanned nearly four years — most from a distance.
After graduation, Jenna returned home to the Rock Hill area, while Andrew made a backpacking trip across Europe. When it came time for Andrew to return to the states, he decided to relocate to Charlotte, and the couple eventually began dating. Within a year, Andrew was on the move again, as he accepted a job in Columbia, SC, and they continued their relationship via text, email, phone and visits.
Talking about their relationship, Jenna said, “It definitely took a lot of trust, patience and us always putting each other first through the distance.”
And Andrew’s proposal? It happened at one of their favorite places — The Battery on the Charleston Waterfront, which is why we all agreed that Charleston, SC would be the perfect spot for their engagement session.
My grandmother used to say “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”  I think she would say it definitely applied for Jenna and Andrew.

“Distance is not for the fearful, it is for the bold. It’s for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love. It’s for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough…”

When it comes to relationships, marriages, and life changing decisions, you typically get only one opportunity to ensure your success. One kindred spirit, one partner for a lifetime. For Rachael and Jerry, their desire for one another has received a second chance. As Rachael said, “God has truly taken us full circle.”
Nearly 10 years ago, Rachael and Jerry were married, and like too many couples, their marriage succumbed to divorce. But unlike other couples, Rachael and Jerry had a daughter, Chloe, who steadfastly refused to accept her parents separation.
Through Chloe’s continual testimonies of her faith and love of God, Rachael’s pride slowly began crumbling. As Rachael said, “Once that wall was down I was able to see that not only did I still love Jerry, but I was actually in love with him. God showed me through others that Jerry was most certainly still my soul mate.”

I once read a book titled, “God Never Wastes a Hurt” and it provided examples of how He rules and overrules in the hurts of life to bring them into a place of destined goodness and total healing.
All couples go through trials and tribulations at some point and for Rachael and Jerry, they were able to, with God’s mercy and forgiveness, find their way back to each other and to their family.

As the wedding party gathered at Lambert’s Winery in Weston, WV, there were happy smiles, excited guests, and a bride and groom who were truly destined to be together. Of course, Chloe, saw the realization of her fervent prayers and could hardly contain her excitement as she said, “This is the happiest day of my life!”

I think Alex Flinn’s words in A Kiss in Time, sums it up well:
True love would look a second time. True love would not be thwarted. True love would not accept no for an answer. He would search the world and certainly look again and again in every cottage until he finds you.”

Having grown up in the country, Autumn has always held special memories for me. It was the busy time of harvest. The time when the stickiness and heat of Summer gradually dissolved itself into cooler nights, shorter days, and the glorified splendor of colorful foliage.

Autumn never seemed to last long enough, for all too soon it seemed the beautiful leaves had fallen, and the warmth inside by the fire was preferable to the bitter cold one encountered just outside the door.

Megan and Robbie told me one of their favorite things to do, is to curl up on the couch with a movie and a glass of wine. I could immediately picture the couple, nestled together under a quilt, fire blazing in the fireplace, watching an epic love story. Megan quickly corrected me. “Our tradition is to go to Redbox, pick out the cheesiest horror movie we can find, and make fun of it together.”

This couple was full of surprises. By looking at them, you can see their deep devotion to one another, but you can also see a playful spirit that can spontaneously appear and keep you guessing what could possibly be next.

One such event was described by Megan when she knew in heart that Robbie was the one for her. “We had driven to Robbie’s hometown of Virginia Beach for the day and climbed Mount Trashmore– yes, this hill was previously a landfill, but it is surprisingly pretty! I remember thinking, ‘if I can have this much fun climbing a mountain of trash with this guy, he must be the one!'”

Even Robbie keeps you guessing. His proposal to Megan had been planned in advance, to include a beautiful mountain setting in Boone, NC, with the rays of the morning sun bouncing off the colorful leaves.  Once they reached the hotel, his spontaneity kicked in, previous plans abandoned, as he dropped to one knee and proposed.

With the grandeur of the Autumn leaves heightened in their beauty at The Arbor Events, it seemed the perfect backdrop for a couple who are celebrating their first Harvest – a harvest of their love and commitment to the future.
